"THE DAY provides online current affairs news and activities for schools and students. It is invaluable for classroom teaching and subject-specific articles for all disciplines, including Science, Maths, Sports, Humanities, D&T, RE, Etc. A quick search function enables you to find relevant and linked articles, all of which can be downloaded as pdfs, and subsequently saved or uploaded (to google classroom) as homework. Each article includes relevant activities and discussion points, as well as links to more in-depth, expert links for further reading around the issue.
A student weekly quiz, and comment sections after each each story, allows students to get more involved. Many articles are also translated into French, Spanish, German and Italian. It is a goldmine of resources for form tutors and for use in assemblies!
As our curriculum and student learning is increasingly driven by conceptual understandings, the news articles could be seen as invaluable sources of contextual content to illustrate (or be an exception to) the over-arching conceptual learning. Teachers will find it a great source of information and inspiration for the classroom, and students can broaden their understandings of the world around them with this constantly updated resource, responding to the changing world around us."

"The Newsademic resource would be suitable for students throughout Bach - both for the purpose of broadening their understanding of current events and developing their English language skills. Every two weeks a news story is published in accessible language for ESL students, complete with a set of both basic and advanced activities such as comprehension questions and crosswords. The news stories - focussing on the biggest political, cultural, scientific, etc, stories of the week - are well-researched and put into a broader historical context so that students can understand the events that led up to the latest news. Having used these resources with grade 9 students over the past few years, it is clear that students enjoy reading the articles (often aloud in class) and responding to the questions. Responses can be checked/assessed against the Answer Key. Simple tasks/exercises, but they work!"
